Wight Whisky

At Wight Whisky we’re doing things a little differently…

Shaking up the world of English whisky as a brand new, independent distillery based on the Isle of Wight. Shaped by the knowledge of those that came before us, we're experimental in nature, pushing boundaries, challenging our networks, and twisting up traditions in the pursuit of perfection.

Our modern approach to whisky making ensures each bottle embodies the diverse nature of the island we proudly call home. Our distinctive and individual island, situated at the very south of the UK, shapes the unique flavour of our whisky. Internationally recognised for its extraordinary landscape, unique climate and rare wildlife, in 2019 the Isle of Wight was awarded UNESCO Biosphere status by the United Nations. This amazing accolade proudly showcases our island’s community, where people live in harmony with the natural environment to support the world we all live in.

Only barley farmed on the Isle of Wight is used in our single malt whisky and we work hand in hand with Isle of Wight Grain, a non-profit organisation that supports and represents the barley farmers on our island.Their stamp of approval features on the back of every one of our bottles.

Goddards Brewery produce our whisky mash which is brewed and then fermented for over 7 days before the distilling process begins at New Farm – our rural HQ which lies within the beautiful and historic grounds of the Nunwell Estate. Once our whisky has matured we use water from Knighton springs, supplied by the wonderful team at Wight Crystal, during the blending and bottling process.

Why a Blended Whisky?

Our first release, the Signature Malt Blend, is a blended whisky. We believe that blending is more than just mixing it’s an opportunity for creativity and collaboration. We work tirelessly, seeking out the finest single malt whiskies across the UK to blend seamlessly into our own. Creating something truly unique, something much greater than the sum of its parts. Our sourcing, blending, and mixing expertise combine to create a whisky bursting with complexity and character – with our island home at its heart.

As we take our first steps into the world of whisky, we opted for the first release to be a blend to establish the Wight Whisky brand and raise enough funds to distil and lay down additional casks of the original Isle of Wight single malt. These will mature over the next 3 years before being bottled and available to purchase in 2027.

“Whisky is more than just a drink - it’s a product which encapsulates its landscape and the conditions surrounding it. The long, lingering sunshine days, salty sea air, and nutrient-rich soil on our island produce a barley like no other, enabling us to transform this simple, local ingredient into a seductively smooth, full-bodied whisky. We are so proud to be working closely with fellow island businesses, and to be part of our island’s history as the first ever whisky brand born on the Isle of Wight. We’re very excited to introduce our island to the world of whisky.”

Lucy Gregg, Co-Founder of Wight Whisky
