BAE Systems and its predecessor companies have been at the forefront of radar development for over seventy years, with work undertaken across sites at Cowes (Isle of Wight), Great Baddow (Essex) and Hillend (Fife).
Its site at Cowes, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024, encompasses all stages of the radar lifecycle, from initial concept, through design, development and production, to in-service support.
The company supplies and supports radars on every major UK Royal Navy warship, as well as providing land-based long range air defence radars. The company also has a significant and growing export base for its products. As such, BAE Systems plays a significant role in protecting both the UK and its customers abroad.
The company continues to invest in the development of innovative radar technologies, pushing the boundaries of defence capability to help the armed forces of its customers to operate effectively in rapidly evolving, complex environments. This, in turn, is creating exciting work opportunities for the company’s workforce, with significant recruitment at the Cowes site across early careers for apprentice and graduates, through to experienced hires.
Through investment in technology, skills and education on the Isle of Wight, including within schools with its support for STEM subjects, BAE Systems continues to play an important role on the Island, contributing to its talent base, economy and prosperity.
