Designing the Future
With decades of experience across several sectors, there are not many design problems that MedTec hasn’t been tasked with offering solutions for. From tattoo guns to piping and routing solutions for £56 million-pound motor yachts to the 3D printing of PPE during the pandemic and prototype parts for engineering projects, this award-winning company based in East Cowes is sending the future of engineering and design far beyond the Isle of Wight.
For nearly 40 years, MedTec has provided design, draughting, and engineering services to businesses that either lack in-house facilities or have overstretched capacity. Acting as a flexible outsourced engineering team, the company can be recruited at a moment’s notice to help discerning clients operating in the oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, composite, and defence industries having completed a broad number of engineering projects from which it has gained unrivalled experience. Over the years, the company has built an enviable customer base that includes reputable brands such as General Electric, Vestas, GKN, Babcock, and BAE Systems.
Within the Island community, MedTec provides training and works closely with CECAMM (Centre of Excellence for Composites, Marine and Advanced Manufacturing) and Bournemouth University to bring new aspiring engineers up through the ranks. Dan Carley, Commercial Director explains, “Students and young adults can start their engineering career with us, gain valuable experience, and then go on to decide which field they’d like to specialise in, learning new skills and gaining encouragement from an established engineering company. We as a company are constantly pushing boundaries and looking at new market sectors, so this is an ideal place for new talent to grow and prosper.”
As an entirely client-driven company with the majority of its customers off Island and their two largest clients in the US and Germany, interaction and the development of rapport are key tools in facilitating the delivery of an efficient service that satisfies its client’s requirements, an approach to relationship building that will support MedTec’s growth long into the future. This growth is borne out also in their longstanding membership of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and their utilising other Island businesses for everything from their office coffee and IT to working with large customers like AJ Wells keeping their supply chain local and benefitting other Island businesses.
