A profile in upholding the Principles and Values of respecting the land and the wildlife that we share it with
Duxmore Botanics is based on our farm, on the Isle of Wight. Our farm is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. We take care to ensure we respect the land and the wildlife that we share it with – we believe there is room for us all.
We love to create luxury body care and home fragrance products that are not only inspired by our beautiful Island but are packed with the finest natural ingredients too. When working with natural ingredients, it is essential that they are of the highest quality – taking into consideration their fragrance profile, and that they are both ethically and responsibly sourced. As a brand we only work with suppliers from trusted sources, that demonstrate the provenance of their ingredients and that they work with farmers and growers to ensure that the harvest is carried out responsibly; and finally, that the people that work the land are looked after too.
Our home inspires us daily, from the beauty of the diverse landscape to the sights and sounds of nature. The sound of the cuckoo calling, the chorus of bird song at dusk and dawn, the partridge scurrying across the fields, red squirrels around the hazel trees, the fox pack in the distant woodland and the buzzards perched up high on fence posts. Clear starry skies, with uninterrupted light, beautiful skies at sunrise and the golden glow across the valley at sunset. With almost half the Island designated AONB, it is a peaceful location, which is good for the soul.
We are passionate about the land and do all we can to care for it. We invest in new trees and hedging plants each year, all native species, to provide shelter for the livestock on our farm, and areas for nesting birds too. We are also working on a natural corridor for our native red squirrels, to enable them to move safely across our valley – planting trees to connect the areas between us and our neighbouring woodlands. This will of course take time to establish, but in the 4 years since I first started planted them and cleared the area, we have seen new wildflowers grow, the trees become more established, and we watch the birds, butterflies and dragonfly enjoy this area too.
We believe in doing good from the start, not offsetting the bad with the good. We care about what we put on our skin, as much as we care for what will end up in our water systems and landfill. We only use natural home-care products at home, often home-made, to both clean and fragrance our home. I have always loved fragrances from nature, developing 'perfumes' as a young girl. I love to create fragrances that transport you to the Islands great outdoors, that bring you moments of calm, or an energising boost - all in the comfort of your home.
We are not perfect, and are always on the look-out for ways to improve, but we are committed to limiting our environmental impact in all that we do.
