A journey of artistic discovery within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
For decades, Isle of Wight Open Studios has been a cornerstone of cultural exploration on the Island, allowing the public a rare glimpse into the creative processes of artists. In 2024, Isle of Wight Open Studios launched as a Community Interest Company (CIC), with a dynamic team of creatives leading the way for the event to prosper well into the future. We aim to champion creative practices and showcase the diverse talent that exists here on our Island. This exciting endeavour invites everyone to be part of shaping an inspiring cultural legacy, by building a sustainable and vibrant future for the arts on the Isle of Wight.
Our three Directors are Cultural Producer - Georgia Newman; Artist - Caroline Underwood; and Manager of The Imaginarium - Charlotte Anderson. Their roles are to oversee the company structure, strategic direction and overall running of Isle of Wight Open Studios. Together they'e working with a wider Action Team to support all areas of the Isle of Wight - including online! The Action Team ensures participating artists are supported and championed through this annual event, collectively aiming to foster a vibrant arts scene on the Island that appeals to both seasoned enthusiasts and young, passionate creatives.
As Deputy Director of the cultural development agency for the Isle of Wight – Creative Island, Georgia says, “I am committed to facilitating meaningful connections between communities and the rich tapestry of contemporary arts and culture. I’m excited to go on this journey supporting the Isle of Wight Open Studios team, to forge partnerships and ensure everyone can experience and participate in great arts and culture on their doorstep.”
Caroline, an artist teacher who has been exhibiting her artwork on the Isle of Wight (and beyond!) for over 20 years adds, “I think that having one Island-wide coordinated event is an important element of the local cultural offer. I’m happy to be working with such a strong team to form a new organisation and bring new life to this idea. Isle of Wight Open Studios has such valuable potential to make the creative community here visible and provides a meaningful way for artists to connect with local residents and tourists alike.”
